Chloée Catherine (she/they) is a white crip queer settler. She applies her learned knowledge and lived experiences in everything she undertakes, whether within post-secondary education or throughout the community. Chloée Catherine is an activist-scholar who strives to generate awareness about accessibility and disability — and ultimately to dismantle preconceived notions rooted in ableism and heteronormativity.
Chloée Catherine holds a Bachelor’s of Arts from King’s University College: Honors Specialization in Disability Studies and Social Justice & Peace Studies (with distinctions). They completed a Master’s of Arts in Cultural Studies at Queen’s University and defended a thesis titled: “Who’s at the Table? The Homogenization of Crip Queers in Decision-Making and Policy-Making Processes”.
Chloée Catherine is currently pursuing a Ph.D in the Field of Critical Policy, Equity and Leadership Studies at Western University’s Faculty of Education. Their research interests lie within Crip Queer Studies — an interdisciplinary field deriving from Critical Disability Studies and Queer Theory. Specifically, Chloée Catherine explores the activism of crip queer students through the lens of a social justice framework. Other research interests include identity development and sexual education.
Chloée Catherine aims to provide awareness about accessibility and disability through their consultation and educational offerings. Their learned knowledge and their lived experiences remain at the forefront of this work — though they do not claim to be an expert. Chloée Catherine has collaborated with non-profit organizations, post-secondary institutions, and key government individuals to foster an understanding of disability beyond the single story narrative often perpetuated in contemporary society — generating inclusive and intersectional spaces for disabled persons.
Chloée Catherine is journeying through disabled horse ownership alongside her two horses, Remmington and Winnie. She has many aspirations — one of them pertains to weaving her equine passion alongside her diverse experiences and vast knowledge pertaining to accessibility and disability.
